From full disk to informed decision

Three steps.
Always your choice.

Scanning is free.
In-app cleanup is a one-time purchase.

  1. 01

    See the big picture. Free.

Choose a folder. A treemap puts the largest items in proportion. Real file names and details help you understand what is taking up space.

  2. 02

    Look closer. Review for free.

Explore, filter, reveal in Finder and mark items for review. No blurred names, scan quotas or countdown. Nothing moves while you’re deciding.

  3. 03

Unlock cleanup when you need it.

A one-time purchase unlocks in-app Move to Trash. Review and explicitly confirm; eligible items use native macOS Trash, and failed items stay marked.

Useful by design

Less guesswork.
More understanding.

Size, in context.

Compare folders at a glance. Switch between size, file count and age without losing your place.

Keep your hands moving.

Navigate with your keyboard, filter by name, or zoom into the map. Interface zoom keeps the details readable.

Your disk stays local.

Disk analysis runs on your Mac. Purchasing, activation and recovery use online services; your scan is not uploaded to them.

Clarity before cleanup

A large file isn’t
automatically an unwanted file.

There’s no automatic cleanup list to trust blindly. Inspect your files, choose what goes, and review the plan before confirming.

System locations, scan roots and mount boundaries have removal guards. Moving something to Trash usually does not free its space until you empty Trash yourself. Libraries, backups and synced folders deserve a closer look.

Understand the cleanup boundaries

A few good questions

Before you
make room.

Read the quick-start guide
Will DiskTree remove anything on its own?

No. Scanning and marking do not move files. You review your selection and explicitly confirm Move to Trash. The app does not offer permanent deletion or empty Trash automatically.

Why don’t the numbers match Finder?

DiskTree normally measures allocated space. Apparent size is a separate view. Finder can include purgeable storage in its available-space figure, and APFS clones, hardlinks and snapshots make totals and potential savings different things. See how storage figures work.

Do I need Full Disk Access?

You can start with a folder you can already read. macOS may request access to Documents, Desktop or Downloads. Full Disk Access can reveal additional protected data; without it, unreadable locations are reported. You remain in control of permission grants.

What about external drives and cloud folders?

You can choose folders and mounted volumes. Access and native Trash depend on the volume and permissions. The scanner avoids opening recognised cloud-only folders, but provider-specific behaviour is still being validated. Network volumes are not promised for launch.

Which Macs will the release support?

DiskTree is being prepared for Mac. Supported Mac models and macOS versions will be listed when the download is available. There is no public app download yet.

What can I do for free?

Scan and explore your Mac, see real file names, sizes and details, reveal items in Finder, and mark and review a selection. There are no scan quotas or time limits. Moving items to Trash from within DiskTree requires a purchase-key activation.

Is there a trial, subscription or expiry?

Free exploration has no time limit; there is no fully unlocked timed trial. US$14.99 is a one-time purchase for two Macs used by the same purchaser, including professional work. Your purchased version does not expire, v1.x updates are included, and future paid major upgrades are optional. Windows is not included.

Will I need an account or a permanent connection?

No DiskTree account is required. A purchase key activates cleanup online; after activation, the purchased version works offline without recurring licence checks. Recovering a lost key or transferring an activation also needs an internet connection. These services will open with purchases.

How will I install it and get updates?

Download the free app, open the signed ZIP, drag DiskTree into Applications and launch it from Finder. Buying unlocks in-app cleanup with a purchase key. Version 1.x updates will be manual downloads. Downloads and purchases are not available yet.

What if DiskTree isn’t right for me?

Direct purchases have a 30-day money-back guarantee. Contact support@disktree.app to request a refund. Applicable consumer rights are unaffected. Read the refund policy.

Is this a new engine?

DiskTree is an independently branded product built on the open-source tobi/disktree foundation, with changes to the Mac experience and cleanup review. Attribution and dependency notices are retained. No upstream endorsement is implied.
